IO

IO

The sculpture IO was inspired by articles about the discovery of IO, Jupiter's red moon. Rik was fascinated by the discovery of its multiple volcanoes and the heat that covered IO's surface giving it a red appearance. The sculpture was designed in 1988 and created the following year. The piece was temporarily on display at The Concord Art Museum in Massachusetts following press coverage from The Boston Globe. Then it became part of a permanent collection at Jerry’s Furniture on Route 16 in Intervale, NH. Settlers Green acquired the piece in 2024 to preserve the art with a full restoration. Rik, a long-time resident of North Conway, now resides in California.
